Sports Gift has distributed sports equipment to over 10 countries in Asia and Pacific. Some countries in this region of the world have faced devastating natural disasters in the last several years including earthquakes and tsunamis. Below are some of the stories from the Asia and Pacific region:

2013

India

This gift of sports equipment included soccer uniform team sets, jerseys, cones, soccer balls, and other sports equipment. The goal of this organization is to fight child trafficking and poverty in an Indian orphanage. This community has extreme poverty, extreme child trafficking and very harsh living conditions. It is a rural community.

Myanmar

This gift of soccer equipment was given to the Wa Orphanage of Lashio, Myanmar. This program aims to help the children in the orphanage become self-sufficient through vocational training programs. These orphans are educated and taught Christian values.

Mongolia

This gift of sports equipment included basketballs, soccer balls, Frisbees, jump ropes, and other sports equipment. Mongolia is the least densely populated country in the world and most of the people are nomadic and over 75% live without running water or electricity. The sports equipment will be used for sports clinics and will be donated to the children.

Beijing, China

This gift of sports equipment included basketballs, soccer balls, Frisbees, jump ropes, playground balls, and ball pumps. Athletes in action sends teams of college athletes to compete overseas and spread the message of Jesus. These volunteers travel to Beijing to work with students on their English and athletic skills. The supplies available to the volunteers are limited and very old. The children attend school in extremely small rooms with no heat or insulation. All of the school materials and teachers time are donated. The only available space for recreational activities is a small slab of cracked concrete.

China

This gift of sports equipment included soccer uniform sets, goalie jerseys, soccer balls, basketballs, and basketball uniform sets. Because China is communist, it is illegal for children to attend church unless their parents are Christians. Wealth also varies significantly depending on where someone is located within the communist system. Many people are so poor that they sleep outside of the church on streets.

Cambodia

The goal of this organization is to rebuild the children of Cambodia. This organization runs an orphanage in Kampong, Speu, which is the poorest providence in Cambodia. The majority of children come with AIDS and no extended family willing or able to take them.

Fiji

This sports equipment went to a rural village on the island of Taveuni, where there is no electricity and limited access to many resources. These villages are tightly knit and sports play a large role in local life.

This gift of sports equipment included uniform team sets, cones, soccer balls, soccer cleats, soccer jerseys, ultimate Frisbee sets, t-shirts, referee flags, footballs, air pumps, and a clipboard. The goal of this organization is to bring hope to children through sharing Jesus and by meeting basic human needs such as food, clothes, shelter, and an education. Pastors from American churches will conduct a soccer outreach in local villages. This is a slum area full of extreme poverty and limited schools. Most children only receive one hot meal a day at school. Most families live on less than $1.50/day in this region, so many parents cannot afford to send their children to school.

The goal of this program is to provide opportunities for churches to serve the physically and spiritually hungry. This team will be taking sports equipment to orphanages and schools in Chennai. The kids in this area have very little, and this team will be hosting kids games to bring joy and the gospel to them.

The goal of this organization is to mobilize churches to put their faith into action by providing opportunities to serve the physically and spiritually hungry around the world. This team will be taking the equipment to an orphanage and public schools in Pokara, Nepal. These children have very little; these teams will be sharing Jesus with them through the use of sports and the message of the gospel.

This organization fills cargos with everything you need to build a school, and then they ship it to Nepal and build schools from everything that is inside the containers. The school in Nepal needs physical education equipment, and currently have no equipment as they live in a very remote area.

The mission of this organization is to welcome all people and serve them with the love of Jesus. The equipment and uniforms will be going to a school in a small town in the Philippines. They don't have any sports programs.

This gift of sports equipment included basketballs, soccer balls, volleyballs, uniform sets, volleyball net, basketball jerseys, basketball shorts, tennis balls, tennis rackets, tennis bags, volleyball jerseys, cones, shin guards, cleats, soft balls, bats, mitts, and other supplies. This high school aims to provide students with applicable skills so that they can graduate and start serving the local community. This school is located in an urban region and has a high poverty rate of about 50% incidence of poverty. The sports equipment is sent to 2 schools there. Most households in the area share one water pump for all of their water needs. Houses are made of bamboo & palm leaves, tin sheeting or concrete. A significant amount of students hold jobs before and after school hours to afford tuition, transportation, supplies and other related costs. Only about 20% of these high school graduates are able to go to university, so the vocational training students receive is essential in earning them a future living. CNHS has a very active sports program playing a wide variety of sports. Students play sports in all 4 years of high school, which keeps them very active. Lack of sports equipment is the largest obstacle in determining whether students get hands on experience playing sports. Teachers often have to use their own salaries to replace deteriorated materials, or discontinue sports programs. This sports equipment donated went to ensure equality for all in playing sports.

Philippines

Most of the areas are very poor and corrupted. The land of Philippines has many places that are needed of support, but this program's main goal is to teach people how to support on their own and follow God's direction.

Samoa

The program members traveled there to build a sports court that will allow kids to play basketball and volleyball. The community currently has a small, beat-up rugby field. Other than that, the children have nowhere to play sports. The community is very rural and has a strong cultural identity. However, it is also very impoverished, and there is little opportunity for the children. Sports have been a primary avenue for Samoan children to gain opportunity to colleges and advanced education.

Sri Lanka

This is a third world country; hundreds of children are orphans and the villages are small and rural.

Sri Lanka and India

Its operations in Sri Lanka are in Colombo and Batticaloa mostly, and in Tamil Nadu state in India. Mostly these are urban youth who live in basic conditions with few resources. This program serves to educate, uplift and empower disadvantaged youth and communities.

Fiji

The program will be setting up different sport teams among the various villages. Approximately 15 villages will compete and create better interactions and relations.

Indonesia

Sports Gift has been supporting this community on the island of Sumba, Indonesia for over five years and our continuing donations in 2010 provided sports equipment to equip additional schools for the children in this very poor community. Sumba is one of the poorest islands in Indonesia. The people of Sumba live in poverty with no running water or electricity and none of the conveniences we experience in the United States. A lack of clean water contributes to serious health risks and disease on the island. Sumba has one of the highest infant mortality rates in the world, where 40% of the children die before the age of eight. 65% of the children are malnourished and half of the children drop out of school by the fourth grade. Malaria is a major disease on the island and in the most severe cases can leave the victim with permanent brain damage. There are a number of schools on the island, but they are in a state of disrepair with leaking roofs and holes in the floors.
